Help & tips
Everything about building, downloading and tailoring your resume, in short answers.
Getting started
How do I make my resume?
Open the builder. Import your current resume (PDF, Word or LaTeX) or fill in the form; the preview on the right updates as you type. When it looks right, press Download free PDF. That's it: no signup needed.
Can I start from the resume I already have?
Yes. Upload your current resume as a PDF, Word file or LaTeX file (or paste the text) and fastcv fills in the form for you, copying your wording exactly. It's free, and we don't keep the file. Then check it, download it in the new layout, or tailor it to a job.
Can I add sections like Achievements or Certifications?
Yes. At the bottom of the form, under Arrange sections, press “+ Add section” and pick Achievements, Certifications, Positions of Responsibility, Publications, Languages and more, or make your own. There you can also move sections up or down (for example Education first if you're a student) and hide one without deleting it. Imported resumes keep their extra sections.
Do I need an account?
No. You can build and download up to two CVs without one; they're saved in your browser. If you want more, or want your CVs on your phone and laptop, sign in with your email. It's free and there's no password.
Your PDF
Is the PDF download really free?
Yes. No watermark, no signup, no limit on downloads. We typeset your resume with LaTeX on our server and send the PDF straight back; typesetting costs us very little, so we don't charge for it.
What's the difference between Quick and Exact PDF preview?
Quick is an instant look-alike of your resume that updates as you type. Exact PDF shows the real LaTeX output, about a second behind. They match closely; use Exact PDF to check exactly where a page breaks before you send it.
How do I fit everything on one page?
Watch the note above the preview: it says whether you fit on one page. To fit more, switch Text size to 10pt, trim older or weaker bullets, and keep bullets to one or two lines. Most recruiters prefer one page for under 5 years of experience.
Is it really LaTeX? Can I edit it in Overleaf?
Yes. Every resume is generated as LaTeX using the Jake's Resume template. Download the .tex file, copy the code, or click “Open in Overleaf” to continue editing it there. It compiles with pdfLaTeX.
Will it pass applicant tracking systems (ATS)?
The layout is a single column of real text with no graphics, icons or skill bars, which is what resume parsers handle best, and the PDF is generated so accented names and symbols extract correctly. Our job-match score is our own transparent measure, not an “ATS score”, because there is no single score that every ATS uses.
Tailoring to a job
What is the Job match score?
Paste a job post in the Tailor to a job tab and you get it instantly, free. It checks the job's must-have and nice-to-have skills, key terms, years of experience and title against your resume, and lists what's missing. It matches words, so it's best for spotting missing keywords.
What is the AI fit check?
It comes with every AI tailoring. An AI screener lists the job's real requirements and checks your resume against each one by meaning, so different words for the same skill still count. Every “met” has to quote your resume, and we check that quote is really there. You see your score before tailoring, with all suggestions applied, and after your own edits (re-checks for the same job are free for 24 hours).
Will the AI make things up to match the job?
It's instructed not to. It only rewords and reorders facts already in your resume, and lists anything the job wants that you can't back up as a gap. You review and approve each change yourself.
Why didn't my score go up much after tailoring?
Because tailoring only rewords what's already true. If the fit check marks something as missing, the score rises when you add true details about it (where it suggests), not from rewording alone. If a requirement is something you haven't done, it stays a gap, and that's honest.
What does “Drops from your original” mean on a suggestion?
The rewrite left out something specific from your original bullet, like a tool, a number or a product name. Apply it only if you don't need that detail. “Apply all” skips these, so you never lose details by accident.
How much does tailoring cost?
The job match score is free. AI tailoring (with the fit check) uses one credit from a Job pack: ₹299 for 15 tailorings, one-time. Failed tailorings never use a credit, and re-checking your fit for the same job is free for 24 hours.
Your CVs and account
Where is my resume stored?
Signed out, in your browser on your device, and nowhere else. If you sign in (free, no password), your CVs are saved to your account so they're on your phone and laptop. AI tailoring sends the resume to the AI for that one request, without your name or contact details.
How do I keep a different CV for each job?
Open My CVs, press Duplicate on your main CV, open the copy and tailor it. Your original stays as it was, and each copy shows which job it was tailored for and its fit score.
Can I back up my CVs?
Yes. In the builder, open the My CVs menu at the top and choose “Back up all CVs” to download a file, and “Restore from backup” to bring them back on any device. Signed in, your CVs are already saved to your account.
How do I delete my account?
Tap the round account button at the top right and choose Delete account. It deletes your account and all synced CVs straight away.
Payments
Is there a subscription?
No. The Job pack is a one-time ₹299 payment for 15 AI tailorings. Nothing renews, and unused credits never expire.
Where do I find my Job pack key?
It arrives by email from Dodo Payments, our payment provider, a minute after you pay (check spam too). Paste it in the Tailor to a job tab. If you're signed in with the same email you paid with, it's saved to your account automatically.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: unused Job packs get a full refund within 14 days, and a tailoring that fails is never charged. See the refund policy.
